Someone gave my grandfather a Games BASICA floppy that had this and other games on it. But this copy had a few games that had been "modified". I remember in DONKEY.BAS, it would curse at you if you hit the donkey. "YOU STUPID SONOFABITCH". We thought it was hilarious. My grandfather was less pleased. He took it away from us when he found out.

As a kid I modified DONKEY.BAS for my younger brother who wanted to play as a donkey avoiding cars. It was a clumsy modification, I didn't account for the differing size of the pseudo-sprites, but it made him happy.

I learned most of the best cursing I've ever done from my grandfather. He took pride in teaching his grandkids to curse.

He was involved in setting up the radar systems at Pearl Harbor, much good that did.

Modifying those games were the first times I ever touched code! There was one that existed somewhere between DOS 2.0 and 3.2 that simply asked your name, then asked how the hell you got that name. It was maybe half a dozen lines, but easy enough to modify output and learn a bit about variables.

Yep. Same here. But I don't do notebooks. Any gain I might get from the writing is outweighed by the huge discomfort that writing gives me. I'm well shot of it.

NYC taxis drive an average of 180 miles per shift[0] so they'd need to triple the range or have some sort of system where they can swap their depleted taxi for a freshly-charged one mid-shift.

Yeah taxis in the capital and small people movers to go from hotel to beach is where these will shine. EVs are especially well suited to stop and go traffic as well.

People are so caught up trying to solve every use case at once. Dropping pollution caused by old taxis in city centers will be a big win for Mexico if they can hit their price point. At the price they are quoting fleet operators can buy 2 and have their drivers swap out mid-day during their lunch.

I was looking for duck fat to roast some potatoes in. The store didn't have it but they did have beef tallow. I gave it a shot. Worked great. I'd get it again

I would make Foie Gras Torchon which is Foie Gras that has been cured like gravlax and then wrapped in a cheese cloth (hence the name) and cooked slowly in duck fat, confit.

I would end up with a 1/2 gallon of foie gras infused (normal) duck fat.

Decided to make french fries using it. It was the best fries I have ever had.

Nonetheless, I would never eat like that today.
