Matrix has become invaluable for dozens of my hacker friends. We ditched Discord almost a year ago and we have no desire to go back. Besides having high quality e2ee voice/video/screensharing (thanks LiveKit), we collectively spend 10x less for the functionality and keep our data in Switzerland. No ads, no one getting their accounts hacked with QR codes, ultra-granular space/channel settings, multiple choices for client implementations, and end to end encryption enables sensitive discussions that would have previously been curtailed. The identity verification is greatly appreciated although our new users do have some issues getting set up with multiple devices, but it's no more complicated than multi-device WhatsApp. Matrix is ready for prime time.
It’s quite an uncanny alignment with Nvidia and other semiconductor companies that benefit from their customers to bloating software and buying as many of their chips with no real thought given to efficiency of the runtime.
They are destroying this country and I for one welcome it. I’m so tired of American hegemony and I don’t care if we all suffer. I want people to learn to do better next time/generation.
Every time you make someone switch modes of transportation to complete their commute, the suffering increases exponentially in my personal experience. I much prefer going door to door and getting the benefit of resting my mind and body.
Because corps can donate unlimited money to super pacs while regular people have to pay for medical expenses (in addition to inflation, DOGEd government programs, gambling addictions, AI layoffs, etc) that keep them from having a political voice commensurate to institutions and financial whales. Regular people are basically subsidizing the same corporations that are taking away their representation.

I remember when you could stand up a website and no bots would scrape it or scan it. It was a lovely time. No one had firewalls or antivirus and things were working fine until the worms and viruses started coming. You could be confident that your guests were real, so much so we had guest counters on many public sites.
Just build your website yourself as deep in the stack as you can instead of piling up 50 abstractions on top of each other. Some decisions like having your page be accessible by IP can only happen if you use technology like generic http servers (like apache or nginx) from the 2000s instead of implementing the lower stacks and actually thinking about whether that makes sense for a second.
If when you build a website or a backend, your server responds to requests by IP address (for example), you are building a bottom 90% product, and considering most software markets are super top-heavy, (say 1% win), that's ngmi land.
