Why no radio? The government is the one handing out the spectrum.

It's all privately operated for profit

for the same reason why you do not get full credit for only writing down an answer without showing work in an exam.

lol what a bad analogy. Why should anyone care how much effort a result takes to achieve? If anything our entire world functions because we reduce that effort as much as possible.

I don't judge you for not growing your own food when you hand me a burger.

I have much more faith that AI would come up with a way to bioengineer ordinary mosquitoes than have any chance at a tiny insect sized robot

Agree.

Gonna note that biology is even less grindable than ordinary chemistry/physics/engineering. We'll have advancements in other real-world fields before AI-powered bioengineering becomes A Thing.

Musk has pulled off a reverse von Braun. Von Braun was a Nazi who used slave labor, but whose past was overshadowed by later building cool rockets. Musk built cool rockets, but his past has been overshadowed by association with similarly evil people.

If your knee is just now jerking, you've got a problem with your reflexes. Discussions like this have been happened for 15+ years.

Taken from another forum where such money is thrown around, the correct response is "congrats and fuck you". Not much point in argument beyond that.

Or the towns are not rich enough to fight in a lawsuit after the town council initially says no, which is how my local datacenter was approved against the will of the people

It's like an inverse representative democracy. A government committed to doing the opposite of the people's desires.

People don't want the billionaires coming into your town and having their way with it, the one you live in and are supposed to get a say in how things are done. This is not difficult to understand.

So unimportant that you just have to comment on how unimportant it is

It’s so unimportant folks are commenting on my comment about how unimportant it is!

That's fine if said trash actually ends up in the landfill. When it ends up ont the grass next to the parking lot is when you start to get the idea that we're all living in each others filth.

Also I disagree that energy should be the item to minimize. It makes sense if you are burning stuff for it, but we've known how to get free energy from the sky for quite a while.

If solar energy is free, or close enough not to matter, it's odd that the quote I got for installing it for my house is tens of thousands of dollars. Or that about 700M people don't have electricity, or that 2B people cook with wood, charcoal, dung, etc. But I can see why, if you believe that energy is free, you would have an entirely different view of global and local economics.

using 'roof solar is expensive, therefor solar is expensive" is borderline disingenuous. It's well established that roof solar is freqently not cost effective.

Which has little relation to installing 100 acres worth. and, its likely the ROI will get even higher as we build more solar fields, and more HV transmission lines.
