I still run across this to this day with GCC and Cortex-M code. The optimizer will occasionally decide to blow away loops that are clearly doing something.

Considering people have interbred jaguars and leopards, and then interbred the female cubs with lions to get a lijagulep, I'm not sure cross-breeding is the gold standard of speciation that gets sold as such in school.
The greatest threat to some of these cat species (the Scottish Wildcat being a prime example) is loss of genetic differentiation through interbreeding with domestic cats.

This effort is actually already ongoing. This splashy headline that seems to have crushed it on publicity front is actually just a small piece of the research currently being done on oncillas (aka tiger cats). The word on the grapevine for the past year or so is that the oncillas are going to get divided up into between five and twelve new species.
It certainly hasn't been my experience visiting Ontario and Quebec. I've had nothing but good experiences. The Quebecois, especially in rural areas, are quite direct and I could maybe see that coming across as rude, but I've never felt unwelcome or a lack of friendliness there.
I've had rude border agents in many countries I've visited, and I've watched CBP officers being incredibly obnoxious to visitors entering the US. I don't think that's a Canada thing.
I don't know what the heck map data Uber uses, but it always sends cars to a road behind my house which would require them to drive through a swamp and then up a heavily wooded hill to get here. OSM had the exact same issue, but I fixed it a couple years ago and it propagated just fine to the various OSM nav apps a long time ago. Neither Google nor Apple maps ever had the issue. But now DoorDash, which never before had an issue, last night attempted to send the driver up a gas line easement to get here. No idea what that's about. The entire issue appears to be that I'm on a long shared driveway and the various nav systems are afraid of it.

It actually comes right from Apple. Andy Hertzfeld, an early Apple employee, has claimed it was originally said in 1981 by another employee, Bud Tribble, to describe Steve Jobs. It was supposedly a reference to Star Trek.
Why do you claim it is an Americanism? The term 'scare-quotes' was coined by a British philosopher, Elizabeth Anscombe, who references her use of them in a 1956 essay. This would imply that they were in use in British English at least by the 1950s, with no indication as to whether they were imported from US English.
Because we very rarely use the term here - it might have been coined here but it has only limited traction. Most people will call them quote marks/quotation marks, and realised that they mean the text is a direct quote of something that has been spoken or written.
The biggest camera store in NYC, B&H Photo, similarly closes their website checkout on Saturdays and on all the major Jewish holidays. It's mildly inconvenient, but it has never really stopped me from ordering from them. I think maybe one time it made me order from a competitor.
I've never understood why I should join a political party. I mean, yes, I lean pretty heavily toward one of the two major parties in my voting, but what advantage does it get me to declare loyalty? Perhaps if I lived in a state without open primaries, but as it is I gain nothing by putting an R or a D in front of my name.
No, you are cutting off the nose to spite the face. Clearly if you lean heavily toward one of the two major parties, you should want to influence the party you lean to in some way.
