Are you not better off with cheaper models like GLM 5.3 or GLM 5.3 Flash? As a lot of that work is repetitive and only needs a stronger model at later stages of cleanup, no?

Of course I don't run everything on Sol. But weaker models can only do very basic things. I have a round robin style workflow where each unit first gets 10 cycles of each luna medium -> high -> terra medium -> terra high -> Sol Medium -> Sol high -> Sol Ultra. And you can clearly see that luna and terra only get a small amount of real progress.

The problem is also that at a lot of code bases are not designed around LLMs and their token usage.

If you have a monolete codebase, you need to clearly define in the prompt what modules are involved. And even then, your wasting tokens with the first 1 or 2 steps where it needs to located the modules.

if you have a github codebase, with a lot of your code into nice little repos, its even worse because then the model needs to pull data, and a ton of more steps.

Most people do not open their coding agents in the module directories because "it may need something out of it".

I mean, we used to program by creating utils directories to deal with repetitive code but models (a) find it and use it (but it cost steps and tokens to read), (b) do not realize it there and make their own version of whatever or (c) combination of both.

And ironically, i feel like we need to give up on this idea of reusable code, and literally keep things into single modules, with as minimum external dependencies. That in return reduces searches and thus steps/tokens burn. But very few agents / harnesses have proper implementation of groups/projects and sub-module structures. Aka they only open a single dir, so your then forced to create dozens of tabs > per dir > cli ...

2. That is also a issue if you open multiple agents. Maybe now your working in A, B but C, D, E are not doing anything. And their cache expires... Now you go back to D because A, B needed to be done, and now your paying Cache Write + Input cost.

Its hard to have a good flow to keep things cached, when to really /new and when to not have it expire (and that assumes there are no issue with the provider moving your session around and forcing new cache hits. MiMo did that a lot in the past).

Something that i also advice more and more to people. Get a microphone, download openwisper and talk (text to prompt). You tend to give more information vocally, then writing as its in our habit of programming to not be verbose. Its like people are afraid of long prompts. While just talking to the LLM tend to give it much more information to work with, often resulting it being able to skip steps.


My first PC 386 was in todays money easily $5000+ (basic 2d GPU + screen)... A lot of hardware in our family was handed down to my folks, because you lost so much on selling, that it was better to keep using them as they had less demands.

386 to 486 to the first Pentium (with the bug!)... You did not upgrade in place, it was often a new system. Sure, you maybe kept your screen, keyboard etc but ... The only upgrade we had on the same MB, was a coprocessor upgrade. Remember those? Each new generation of CPU was a new motherboard. Upgrading CPUs in the same MB really became a thing only later on.

GPUs had a shelf life of barely a year. Its been 35 year but i remember TNT to TNT2 having like 9 month in between. Moving from 2D to 3D involved a constant cost as GPUs evolved fast and the latest games required latest hardware.

We have not talked about the ISA, AGP, and PCI fun ... The “bus wars”.

DOS to Windows 3.1 (and OS/2 somewhere in between) to 95 ... with software being pushing hardware, just like games did.

This is why people are spoiled with cheap PC hardware where its cheap, and easily lasts 4+ years. Even with the bad memory price and more expensive GPUs, your can stil buy a $1500 system that will last you years (with maybe some lower game settings later on ... or the catalog of 10.000s games that will easily run on a mid tier GPU).

PC hardware has become boring but extreme stable. You can run GPUs for year, switch MBs without issues while keeping large amounts of old hardware. That was NOT the 80s and 90s that i remember.


Sorry, I’m specifically talking about the claim that a cutting edge $10k system cost $1k just 24 months later (or less).

Really depended when you bought them .. 386 is like the point where people really started to buy PCs. My 386 was more to the end period, so the jump to 486 was very short. Do not forget there was a ton of 386's and 486s released also. I remember the SX, DX, ... the coprocessor that you plugged into the socket and then the CPU into it.

The problem is that your too focused on the CPU only. There was GPU improvements (2d) then 3D, the constant improvements in sound cards. Printers ...

There was very strong depreciation in that time. I think that the poster before with his $10.000 > 1000 is somewhat exaggerating but like i said, my $5000 range system was not worth reselling. So did several other systems we acquired at the time, it simply became hand-me downs (for family who needed a PC for Lotus or WP but not a "advanced" PC).

Maybe my memory is off, but hardware in that time was way more expensive, then it is today. While todays hardware lasts WAY longer. The wife is still on a 8250u/8GB laptop, from like 8 years or so, and i can not pry it out of her hands. Needed a new battery lol ...

There really is rarely pressure to upgrade these days. That is not how i remember the 90's... Where upgrades tended to have much bigger impacts. Especially as gamers. But even on side equipment like CD players, CDRs and later DVDs.

Todays PCs is like ... raytracing, no interest. 4k? 1440p is perfectly fine. CPUs? Over powerful for most folks. The only new thing is AI and that is a totally different issue.

Regardless, these sorts of things have been fought before, over and over. Often, courts don't care about an EULA when wrongful action has been taken.

My understanding is subscription usage generally has free cache reads, but I'm not sure if maybe Fable was different in that regard.

The fact that we don't know is part of the problem. Subscription usage has always been pretty opaque.

OpenCode Go is probably using quantized down DS4Flash. They outsourced to 3th party providers to keep the cost down, and being able to provide that $30 value (instead of the initial $60 > $15).

We saw the same issue with GLM 5.2 when they still published publicly who the providers are on their website. Most ran FP8 but one was doing FP4, so you had this issue where one moment you had the better FP8 and another session you had the FP4 provider.

You can check the internet archive, it was in the FAQ part before they hide/removed it. So if you looked up the providers, and the published quants, yea, ...

Given that a lot of complaints are coming from people that felt OpenCode Go Flash feel like a step down compared to old OpenCode Go/DeepSeek API directly, it smells of a quantized down provider is mixed in.


You will notice that DMCA claims are often against smaller parties. You rarely see those DMCA claiming companies go after somebody like Microsoft because those companies can fight back.

Its a system that mostly benefits large companies. Just about everybody else hates the system.


The problem with DMCA claims is that there are no consequences on misuse.

It places all the work on the affected parties to prove their innocence.

And suing the fake claim, is years of work and cost. This is why companies like Tracer.AI, ... get away with it. And how the system even gets misused to remove competitors or flat out blackmail.

Even worse is when we have hosting companies in Europe, who simply take American DMCA claims for granted because investigating them costs time and money.

Its not the end of programming, its the change from how we program.

Do we still write code in Assembly? No, we moved over to a form of programming that allowed more people, to easier program.

Did it mean that the assembly guys lost their jobs? No, their knowledge allowed them to still program better then the rest, in the new paradigm world.

Did the creation of visual programming UIs like Delphi, VB, etc result in the end of programming because the entry level was lowered even more? No ...

But people who have no programming experience are now programming. So?

My dad who has at most basic PC knowledge ended up making a few simple programs 20+ years ago, because he had a need for it. He did it with a combination of easy programming language + visual interface like VB, and googling... That did not make him turn it into a job.

My old boss who had no programming knowledge (bank/sales guy) used Microsoft Access to make a ticket system to monitor the employees. With cost calculation, hour tracking etc.

It did not remove the need for programmers, people with actual experience. We also used those new tools like visual UI, or easier programming language (compared to assembly) to work faster, create bigger programs, ...

AI baaed programming is just the same. I have seen non programmers create impressive programs, just like i have seen non-programmers create impressive programs in Visual Basic.

BUT ...

When issues are found, this is where experience actually matters. Even if we do not program anymore in the old way by writing every word, its that experience of understanding how something works, that makes the difference.

Just like the guys that has gone from 100% asm, to maybe 1% transitioned, so are we all transitioning.

No matter how good a transcompiler is (yes, they existed before AI), you always need to fix issues and that requires domain knowledge.

No matter how many programs your transcompile, it means nothing without actually supporting those programs. Making software is the easy part, keeping it supported, bug fixed, etc matters. People may be crapping out tons of programs with AI, most of them are abandonware because creating is sexy, maintaining is not. Guess what the real job of most programmers is? Yea ... the boring part.

AI is a tool, just like how we moved from low level programming language, to compile helper, debuggers, syntax highlighters, to visual interfaces, ... and all of those tools are their to make our work faster, easier, .. to be more productive and squeezer more out of person.

We harvested grains manually, then the first simply tools came. It did not remove farmers. The arrival of the tractor that made harvesting even easier. It did not remove farmers. We now have combines that run on GPS and can harvest themselves and do the work in a hour, that will have taken 1000 people in a day. And yet, farmers still exist. What happened is that people can do more, vs them doing it manually.

Its not the end of programming, programming simply changed in the way its done. And some people have a hard time accepting changes. Its not the end, it never is, its simply the changeover how its done.


From my experience:

* OpenAI was ~$170 per week in value

* Claude was around $500 per week in value.

* Ollama Cloud is giving me about ~$160 per week in value.

So right now (thing constantly change in the AI world), its not more generous then Claude.
